Former world champion sprinter, Tyson Gay is mourning the death of his daughter. She was killed in a shooting incident, which took place in Kentucky on Sunday. Trinity Gay was brought to the hospital but later died at only 15 years old.
Tyson Gay is the 100m record holder for the US and he’s one of the best and fastest 100m runners behind Usain Bolt. Trinity followed her dad’s footsteps. She was also an athlete and competed for her school, Lafayette High School.
In an interview with CNN back in 2012, Gay shared how her daughter has the same passion as him. Gay wanted to nurture and make
s Trinity the best that she could be.
“It was pretty amazing to watch her run and compete and still keep her spirits up high when she didn’t win,” Gay said in the interview. He also shared that he tries to balance his time
in between watching his daughter’s career and having his own career.
Deep condolences poured from friends and loved ones of Trinity and Tyson. Trinity’s school also shared some messages of support for the family.
“Our hearts are broken this morning over the loss of Trinity to this tragic and senseless act of violence,” said a message from Manny Caulk of the Fayette County Schools.
Trinity was a rising track star like her father and was one of the team’s best players. The school system has also activated a Crisis team at Lafayette High School. The school is asking the whole community to keep Gay’s family in their prayers.
Local schools and track teams expressed their grief over Trinity’s death.
The incident is still being investigated. However, there are two people that have been detained for questioning in relation to the shooting between passengers of two vehicles. Trinity was unfortunately caught in the crossfire and shot in the neck. TUS police has located the Dodge Charger and they are still locating the other vehicle involved.
In an interview with BBC, Tyson Gay tearfully shared about the loss of his daughter. He was still in shock that things happened so fast. “She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened,” Gay said.
Tyson Gay tested positive for a banned substance back in 2013 and he was also banned from competition the following year. Does this have any connection with his daughter’s death?
