“Transformers 5” is not only the franchise that Paramount Pictures is pouring its efforts on.
The Hollywood Reporter details that the studio has embarked on a deal with Hasbro’s AllSpark Pictures which will allow the “GI Joe” franchise to exist in a shared universe with other Hasbro brands like M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand), Micronauts, ROM, and Visionaries.
Considering that Hasbro is also behind the development of the “Transformers” franchise set to expand more on “Transformers 5”, it becomes a close possibility that it and “GI Joe” will meet on shared ground in the future.
THR also does not dismiss the fact that both the “Transformers” and “GI Joe” franchises have been top grosses in their own right. For the part of “Transformers”, THR reports that the four films so far have grossed $3.8. billion. Meanwhile, THR mentions that the two “GI Joe” movies have grossed around $675 worldwide.
For now, an actual crossover between “Transformers” and “GI Joe” is mere speculation–and perhaps a hope for fans of both franchises.
/FILM even highlights that a crossover between the two may sound perfect, but it does not seem like it will be happening in the near future.
Nevertheless, fans anticipating the arrival of “Transformers 5” are one step closer to the film.
Cinema Blend reports that Mark Wahlberg, the protagonist of “Transformers: Age of Extinction”, has confirmed his return for the fifth “Transformers” film. The website points out that although the actor’s return is a given, his confirmation still matters because it can serve as guarantee that Michael Bay will also return to handle the project.
Cinema Blend details that Bay already expressed he will not continue with the franchise; however, Wahlberg’s involvement may have the capacity to change his mind.
For now, not much is known regarding “Transformers 5” but it is listed as having a 2017 release date. Therefore, fans can expect more news of the upcoming movie to come in by 2016.
