Fans have been waiting for the Tomb Raider reboot for a while now. However, now that “Jason Bourne” actress Alicia Vikander has come on board to take over as Lara Croft, excitement for the movie has only further escalated. Vikander might have big boots to fill, since Angelina Jolie’s take on the role proved so iconic. But everyone seems to agree that the actress also makes the cut. When should fans expect the movie to come out?
According to Deadline.com, Vikander will debut as Lara Croft two years from now. The new Tomb Raider movie will come out on March, 2018. Neither Warner Bros. nor MGM has released plot details about the upcoming film yet. However, the entertainment blog speculates that it might explore the same story arc as the recent Tomb Raider video game reboot did.
Cinema Blend found the movie’s scheduled premiere interesting, though. As the film blog pointed out, a major DC film will be released on the same date. Some believe this would be the upcoming standalone movie of The Flash, starring Ezra Miller.
Warner Bros. might just choose to release both movies at the same time. However, Cinema Blend thinks the studio would likely favor a premiere date closer to the summer season for the solo film of DC’s favorite speedster. Will the Tomb Raider premiere really push back the release of The Flash? No word as of yet to confirm this. Stay tuned for updates.
Meanwhile, the Tomb Raider reboot is not the only big screen video game adaptation coming soon. Another popular game, Assassin’s Creed, is also about to get the Hollywood treatment. Vikander’s boyfriend, Michael Fassbender, will star in the film as Callum Lynch. Assassin’s Creed will hit theaters on December 21st.
Can’t wait to see Vikander as Lara Croft? Don’t hold your breath just yet. The Tomb Raider reboot will not hit the big screen until March 16, 2018.
