The iconic role has been played by great, well-loved actors in the past, like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. What makes Holland so different from his predecessors?
1. Tom Holland will be the youngest actor to play Spider-Man in recent years.
According to CNN, the British actor is 19 now. He will just be 21 when “Spider-Man” hits theaters in 2017. Maguire, meanwhile, was 27 when he first played Peter Parker. Garfield was 29.
2. “Spider-Man” is not the first film he’ll star in.
He’s been in a handful of movies in the past. He previously played the leading role in “The Impossible.”
3. He is an award-winning actor.
His role in “The Impossible” also led to some serious acting awards for him. He was even named Young British Performer of 2012 by the London Film Critics Circle.

According to CNN, Holland also played the original Billy Elliot, the boy ballet dancer in the stage hit “Billy Elliot the Musical.”

Holland bested “many terrific young actors” to get the role of Spider Man. According to IBTimes, Sony Pictures chair Tom Rothman said, “Tom’s screen tests were special.”

According to Independent, James Gunn seems to think so. “Holland is the best Spidey…ever by a country mile,” the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director said. “It’s his own thing. He is to Spidey as Downey is to Iron Man, Ledger was to the Joker.”
