Recent reports have confirmed the addition of “Star Trek” star Karl Urban to the cast of “Thor 3 Ragnarok.” According to IGN, Urban’s character, Skurge, will be a crucial element in the third movie and the impending destruction of Asgard.
Upon learning about the good news, Urban claimed that he is ecstatic to be part of the cast. The actor added that it is definitely a good role for him to portray.
“I read a fantastic script that was action-packed and full of great characters,” he told IGN. “When I heard who was involved — and the cast list dropped yesterday — and [saw] the opportunity to work with [director] Taika Waititi, who I think is one of the most brilliant directors coming through, I made the decision. It was something that I wanted to be a part of.”
“And the character is fantastic,” Urban continued. “He’s got a great arc to him. Obviously I can’t say too much about it, but I’m really thrilled to be a part of the Marvel universe and to be working on Thor: Ragnarok.”
While not a lot has been revealed about Urban’s character, speculations have already flooded the internet. Given Skurge’s key involvement in the comics, fans are claiming that the foe-turned-ally could actually be the reason why Thor will get another chance to live in the MCU.
“He went out in a memorable blaze of glory, sacrificing himself so Thor and his friends could escape the Asgardian underworld,” IGN noted. “It’s one of the great moments in Marvel comics lore, and would be amazing to see depicted onscreen.”
“Thor 3 Ragnarok” is slated for a November 3, 2017 release. Confirmed to return are Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Anthony Hopkins as Odin. Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster and Tessa Thompson as the Valkyrie are confirmed to be the latest additions to the third instalment’s cast.
