In the latest news on the upcoming Marvel film, “Thor: Ragnarok,” a new writer was reported to join the production team. And because this newbie writer is known for comedy projects, will “Thor 3” involve more hilarious scenes?

According to Hollywood Reporter, comedian and writer Taika Waititi was hired to write the script of the third installment of Marvel’s “Thor.” Taika previously co-wrote and co-directed the vampire spoof, “What We Do In The Shadows.”

With a comedy writer on board, Slash Film noted that Marvel wants to maintain the sense of humour in previous “Thor” films. Despite the title “Thor: Dark World,” the site mentioned that it “was far from a dark movie.”

Meanwhile, screenwriter Stephany Folsom will conduct rewrites for the upcoming film. She’s the latest female writer to join the Marvel films. Hollywood Reporter mentioned that Stephany is known for her 2013 Black List script “1969: A Space Odyssey” and Disney’s “The Princess of North Sudan.”

With new writers joining Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, there’s no wonder that “Thor 3” will be heading to a new direction. For lead star Chris Hemsworth, there’s no problem with that. He revealed that he wants to have more fun scenes on the Marvel film.

Speaking to Cinema Blend, Hemsworth said,

“I think [Thor: Ragnarok] needs to be injected with that sort of smart wit and unexpected kind of humor, kind of what James Gunn came in and did with Guardians [of the Galaxy]. It was like off center and unpredictable, and I think we can definitely use a dose of that, you know?”

The Australian actor mentioned that he wished the production had included more humour or naivety on the two films.

“I think now it’s time to go, ‘Okay, cool. Let’s try something different,’ and Taika just had such a brilliant sort of take and funny kind of ideas about where we could [go], how we could do that,” Hemsworth added.

“Thor: Ragnarok” will hit theatres on July 28, 2017.
