“Thor 3” movie director Taika Waititi is known for his comedy projects. In the third movie installment, the New Zealand native hopes to showcase the comedic talent of Australian hunk Chris Hemsworth. As the movie turns to that direction, will it somehow lack action scenes?
Of course, not. Waititi aims to “strike a nice balance between action and humor,” Comicbook.com noted. In addition, he plans to highlight Hemsworth’s comedy. The site mentioned that “Thor: Ragnarok” will set “a better tone” than “Thor: The Dark World.”
“As much as I love action and spectacle, I think my strength and what I’m really interested in mostly is character. It’s a hard balance, because you’ve still got to blow shit up,” he told Indie Wire.
Likewise, Waititi revealed that he’s excited to show Hemsworth differently. He said, “It’s silly not to use that [Chris’ comedy]. He’s so good.”
Hemsworth’s funny side quite surprised “Gilmore Girls” star Melissa McCarthy. She mentioned that she never thought Chris was “so bizarrely funny.”
“No one told me that Chris was so bizarrely funny. He’s one of the best improvisers I’ve ever worked with, and I’ve worked with many funny people,” the 45-year-old actress told The New Paper.
Somehow, the “Thor” star have always hoped for funny scenes on the film. Last year, he told Cinema Blend how he loved the funny scenes from “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
“I think [Thor: Ragnarok] needs to be injected with that sort of smart wit and unexpected kind of humor, kind of what James Gunn came in and did with Guardians [of the Galaxy]. It was like off center and unpredictable, and I think we can definitely use a dose of that, you know?” he confessed.
He did get his wish as fans can expect a “more adventurous and humorous” superhero film.
“It’s a very different Thor, it’s a different Loki; we go off on another world that we haven’t experienced before,” he exclaimed. “It’s fun, but that’s me skirting around the issue because I can’t say too much.”
“Thor 3” is expected to hit theatres on July 28, 2017.
