Hollywood life can be taxing for actors or people in the film industry in general. Shooting a movie, especially big tentpoles like “Thor” or “Avengers” means a lot of time spent away from family, which is the case with “Thor: Ragnarok” star Chris Hemsworth. Hemsworth has left Los Angeles for his home in Australia because he feels suffocated with all the work and does not want his children to grow up in Hollywood.

Speaking about his decision in the April issue of Modern Luxury Magazine, Hemsworth said, “I love what I do as an actor, but when you are surrounded by it constantly, it becomes a bit suffocating.” He added that “It’s nice to have conversations with people and be a part of a community that doesn’t live and breathe that world.”

For the eldest Hemsworth brother, family comes first. “L.A. is a tough place to get around with kids. There’s not a whole lot of foot traffic. It was all about loading up the car and car seats. Here [in Australia], we just walk out the door and head to the beach down the street. It’s a much more simple life,” the “Ghostbusters” actor says.

Hemsworth further described how the tough life in the L.A. neighbourhood made him and wife Elsa Pataky decide to leave Hollywood for the sake of their kids. “We were living shoulder to shoulder in the suburbs and thought that’s not how we want our kids to grow up. Moving to a kind of farm setup back here on the coast in Australia has been the best thing.”

Chris Hemsworth is now at the prime of his Hollywood career, with “Thor: Ragnarok” and other projects lined-up for release, including two more “Avengers” movies. However, his kids are what matters more to him than his career. “It’s no longer all about me, which is quite refreshing. Acting is the most self-absorbed world, where you are thinking about your feelings. How do I feel in this scene? How do I feel about that?” Hemsworth says, with quite a bit of Hollywood fatigue.

“You are constantly having to self-analyse or analyse a character you are playing, so you are internalising and thinking, thinking, thinking about me. Oh, i didn’t get that film and I wanted that one, and am I any good? It’s just a horrible, noisy conversation. Once the kids arrived, I was like, ‘Wow, this is what life is about,’” he added.

Hemsworth is finally able to relax and be a family man at his home-turf. The actor says he now lives for his three children:  India Rose, 3, and twins Tristan and Sasha, 2, when not working. He eagerly looks forward to his kids “to come give me a hug and tell me they love me.” Now, when Hollywood comes calling, Hemsworth goes back “with a new spark and energy and excitement to do it all.”

“Thor: Ragnarok” will also be filming in Queensland’s Gold Coast, reports ABC.net.au. So, Hemsworth will have a lot of time available for his family.
