Apple’s venerable MacBook Air has been the device of choice for people who are always on the move but don’t want to be slowed down by the heavy weight that comes with full-sized laptops. It also happens to be the Cupertino firm’s most affordable offering to boot. Now, it seems Apple wants to finally put an end to the strong line of laptops this year, and it may be done so that the company could shift its focus on its MacBook Pro 2016.
Apple hasn’t even set an announcement, much more a release date for the upcoming MacBook Pro 2016. However, the new rumour of Apple dropping its MacBook Air lineup is now cemented by new reports citing that the company will launch a 13-inch and a 15-inch MacBook that both feature the 12-inch MacBook’s design.
Citing a source, Jack March says that a MacBook Air launching this year is not going to happen despite the rumours that are suggesting Apple will launch one this year. “It’s more likely that Apple will launch new MacBook Pros that are thinner (at thickest point) and lighter than the current MacBook Air models. Therefore, the 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro will be the equivalent of the Retina MacBook Air that everyone was waiting for,” wrote March on his website.
March has been on point so far regarding his predictions for the MacBook lineup. He managed to accurately predict that Apple will be launching a 12-inch Retina Macbook, and the company did so last year.
Apple has already discontinued the iPad Air lineup, and it could be a clear sign that the MacBook Air is soon to also meet its inevitable end. The MacBook Pro 2016 has been making Apple power users wait, but it will only be a couple of months until the company officially announces what it has in store for the MacBook family when WWDC 2016 hits.
