Teen Wolf Season 6 and The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will both wrap up the show in their upcoming seasons. Two shows with huge fanbases confirmed their show’s end. Despite clarifying that the show must come to an end, there’s always a bigger reason behind it. Did a main character’s exit serve as one of the reasons for the show’s cancellation?

In 2015, there were already rumours on Nina Dobrev’s exit on The Vampire Diaries Season 6. After Ian Somerhalder married Twilight star Nikki Reed, rumours mentioned that Nina can’t stand working with her ex. Hence, she had to leave for good. After she left the show, it seems her departure had an impact on the show’s ratings.

News on cancellation of Teen Wolf Season 6 fuelled after Dylan O’Brien met a tragic accident. Although O’Brien will be back for this season, it seems he’ll only be appearing in 1 or 2 episodes of Season 6A. New villains called the ghost riders has the power to erase Stiles’ memories. Thus, it led to speculations that O’Brien will only be present in a few episodes.

At the San Diego Comic Con 2016, both Teen Wolf and The Vampire Diaries cast and crew announced the news on the cancellation. Teen Wolf‘s Jeff Davis and The Vampire Diaries’ Julie Plec teased fans on what will happen on the final season.

“‘Teen Wolf’ has been an extraordinary journey, one that captured the hearts and imaginations of fans more than we could’ve ever imagined,” Jeff Davis said. “We’re eternally grateful for the support we’ve received over these past six years and we’re excited to take our brave fans on one last, thrilling adventure”.

“We all have discussed it and we’ve made the decision that this is it,” Julie Plec told fans, Hollywood Reporter reported. “This is going to be the final season of The Vampire Diaries. It’s bittersweet and emotional and we’re all going to be crying in a minute. It’s been a beautiful run…. Get ready, because it’s going to be an epic ride.”
