Dylan O’Brien’s injuries may be worse than expected. The Maze Runner: The Death Cure release date has been pushed to 2018, consequently putting the star’s participation in Teen Wolf Season 6 in a state of uncertainty.
O’Brien sustained an injury on March 18 on the set of The Death Cure, the third and final installment in The Maze Runner movie franchise. The movie was initially set for a Feb. 17, 2017 premiere, but was recently moved to Jan. 12, 2018 to give O’Brien more time to recover.
The production of the movie is currently on hold for an indefinite period. The shutdown was extended because the actor’s injuries “were more severe than initially believed.” “His injuries are very serious, and he needs more time to recover,” the actor’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, said in a statement.
With that said, O’Brien’s appearance in Teen Wolf Season 6 may also be affected.
The Teen Wolf cast has already begun filming, and there’s a lot of buzz about whether O’Brien can catch up to film a few scenes as Stiles Stilinski.

Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis has made it clear that O’Brien is still part of the Beacon Hills pack as his character is an important figure in the series. It could be said, however, that the 24-year-old actor will sit out most of the sixth season, appearing only in fewer scenes as usual.
Davis revealed in an interview with Teen Wolf News that although “much of [Teen Wolf Season 6] is uncertain,” the story will “definitely be focusing more time on Liam, Mason, Hayden, and Corey and the ups and downs of those relationships.”
As for Stiles’ arc, Davis has planned a major event for him and Holland Roden’s Lydia. “I’ll say something very big happens between Stiles and Lydia in the first episode of season 6, and viewers will have to tune in to find out whether it’s good or bad or both,” Davis told Hollywood Life.
In the meantime, fans can catch Dylan O’Brien in the upcoming thriller Deepwater Horizon, due in theatres Sept. 30.
Teen Wolf Season 6 is expected to return to MTV later this year.
