Sparks flew for Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) when The Flash unintentionally landed in Kara’s world in Supergirl Season 1. Now that Supergirl is officially flying to The CW for Season 2, and with network president Mark Pedowitz confirming a massive DC Superheroes crossover event in December, the statistical probability of Kara and Barry falling in love just got higher.
In a previous interview, The Flash star Grant Gustin said that his character and Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl would make a “great couple.”
“We had a really fun dynamic and I bet next year, there’s probably more crossovers than we’ve ever had,” Gustin said, according to ComicBook.com.
Unfortunately for Supergirl-Flash shippers, Benoist does not think it’s a possibility.
“I don’t know that they’d ever get together; I think they’re too similar,” said Benoist at The CW’s upfront event, as quoted by Newsarama. “I think they’d like pig out on… I think they’re pals, pigging out on ice cream.”
Moreover, both Kara and Barry are romantically involved with people in their respective worlds. Barry is in love with his best friend Iris (Candice Patton), while Kara is head over heels with James (Mehcad Brooks).
If ever The Flash and Supergirl do end up together, this wouldn’t be the first time characters from different TV shows get smitten with each other. When The Flash was introduced in Arrow Season 2, he had a brief romance with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards). Their relationship did not progress since Barry had to return to Central City.
Love interest or not, Barry and Kara are expected to share some screen time in The Flash Season 3 and/or Supergirl Season 2.
Meanwhile, Kara’s love life will be explored in Supergirl Season 2, especially after she and James sealed their relationship with an unexpected kiss in the Season 1 finale. Kara’s cousin Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman is also rumored to make an appearance.
Supergirl Season 2 and The Flash Season 3 will return to The CW this fall.
