As most people know, Beyonce had a concert in the middle of the game between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers. Only it wasn’t a concert. It was the halftime show for Super Bowl 50. Beyonce wasn’t even this year’s headliner. But everyone was talking about her because, well, she’s Beyonce. Everything she does is flawless.
But did the Beyonce outfit from yesterday’s performance look really familiar?
British band Coldplay was yesterday’s real headliners. According to Telegraph, yesterday’s halftime show “was a tribute to ‘past, present, and future’ performances.” This was the reason why the band invited past Super Bowl performers, Beyonce and Bruno Mars, to join them. They even showed a montage of past performers yesterday. Everyone was honored, from Prince to Katy Perry.
But was Beyonce’s outfit a subtle homage to another icon of the past too?
Beyonce’s military-style body suit looks like a re-imagined version of the black and gold leather jacket Michael Jackson wore when he performed at the Super Bowl 27, according to Telegraph.
Yesterday’s halftime was sponsored by Pepsi. According to the Daily Mail, Pepsi also sponsored the 1993 Dangerous World Tour where Jackson also wore the iconic outfit.
Beyonce’s leather suit was made by designing duo Dsquared2. The diva was also reportedly wearing 100 carats of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds, fishnet tights and heeled Christian Louboutin boots.
Beyonce may have given a much talked-about performance. But Coldplay also did an awesome job. Mars held his own, too. Who else can survive a dance off with Queen B and live to tell the tale? Mars was also wearing a black leather look by Versace.
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga sang the American national anthem before the game. According to Telegraph, she wore a sparkling, red suit by Alessandro Michele for Gucci.
