It was revealed at the end of the “Suits” season 5 finale that Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) and Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) decided not to get married. She was to pursue her studies further to earn a law degree. Meanwhile, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) accompanies Mike to Danbury prison and Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) and Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) return to the firm from the church to find it deserted. The future of the firm Pearson Specter Litt looks very grim indeed. It has been learned that season 6 will focus on Mike’s time in prison. Also, actress Gina Torres may quit the show.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), “Suits” executive producer Aaron Korsh said that there won’t be any time jump going from season 5 to season 6. The forthcoming season will, in fact, pick up the story from the end of the season 5 finale called the “25th Hour.”
“We’re coming back right where we left off,” said Korsh. “The entire episode as is currently contemplated takes place with Mike’s first night in prison and the first night back at the firm when they’ve come back and it’s empty,” he added.
Deadline reports that though Gina Torres (Jessica Pearson) will remain a regular in season 6, she had signed a six-year deal with “Suits” producers. It is likely that her character will get “phased out.” This means that her character will be given some sort of resolution and she’ll be let go unless both she and the producers decide to extend her contract.
Well, “25th Hour” showed us that the employees of Pearson Specter Litt had all left the firm. This may push Jessica Pearson to remove herself from the firm once and for all, while Harvey, Louis, and Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty) try their best to restore the firm or might decide to go their separate ways. The latter scenario is unlikely as the firm is of central importance to the story.
Breathecast notes that in season 5, Harvey cut a deal with Charles Forstman (Eric Roberts) that he’d resign from his position to keep his firm safe from Daniel Hardman. It will be interesting to say whether that moment comes to pass in season 6.
Korsh told THR that “Obviously, Mike Ross is being put into a whole new situation. He’s got to move on and reinvigorate himself and get back on his horse pretty quickly.” He added that the focus of Mike’s prison term is not studying to become a real lawyer but about surviving the harsh and soul-crushing environment of the prison. It also remains to be seen whether Rachel will remain committed to Mike Ross during his prison term or will find a new love.
