One huge question in DC’s “Suicide Squad” is that – when is the movie actually set? Is it pre or post “Batman vs Superman”?

The latest movie from the DC Extended Universe is set to hit cinemas in about a month. But fans can’t help but speculate on when the movie sets. Movie Pilot has shared some images and videos that may offer hints to answer this burning question.

So let us bring out our magnifying glass, review Sherlock Homles’ deductive codec, and get right into the clues.

Pre-“Batman v Superman”

It is the Dark Knight’s Batmobile that made fans believed “Suicide Squad” is set before the battle between Batman and the Man of Steel. See photos here.

The recent NBA finals promo of “Suicide Squad” has already confirmed that Batman, portrayed by Ben Affleck, will be part of the film.

Another dead giveaway is the presence of The Joker in the super villain movie. In “Dawn of Justice,” Batman has been on a killing spree. This means the super villains should not survive if the squad was formed after BvS.

Post-“Batman v Superman”

Movie Pilot noted that another compelling clue that the super villain squad was formed after BvS is in its third promo trailer. The teaser clearly mentioned the word “Superman,” which suggests that the movie is set after “Man of Steel” film. The way it was expressed was indicative of Superman’s momentary demise in the previous DC movie “Dawn of Justice.”

Another hint that “Suicide Squad” was set post-BvS was the flashbacks on the origin of Harley Quinn. If it is set otherwise, Quinn’s flashback would mix up the entire DCEU chronology.

It has been confirmed that there will be Batman scene in “Suicide Squad” that will involve The Joker and Harley Quinn.

It can also be recalled that in the recent “Dawn of Justice” movie, Bruce Wayne had mentioned The Joker to Clark Kent that there are some freaks people dressed like clowns roaming around Gotham.

“Suicide Squad” will have some flashbacks for sure. On August 5th, we will all find out if these flashbacks will shed light on the confusion in the DCEU timelines.

“Suicide Squad” will feature Will Smith (Deadshot), Jared Leto (Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo), Karen Fukuhara (Katana), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg),  Adam Beach (Slipknot), and Viola Davis (Amanda Weller).
