“Suicide Squad” is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The film’s stars know they have to bring their A-game to their respective roles. What sorts of “insane” things did they have to do to perfect their characters?
In an interview with Coming Soon, actor Will Smith talked about the process he went through for his role as Deadshot. “It’s a character that hasn’t really been explored in cinema,” the actor said. “I [got] to design it and be a part of creating the first round of Deadshot in the history of cinema… It’s a really great opportunity to work with a really great ensemble. It was perfectly cast. It’s an insane group of super actor villains.”
Smith also talked about what it was like to work on set. “These kinds of movies are a different breed,” he added. “The huge, gigantic tentpoles that are designed to be global behemoths. I wanted to do something like that with David Ayer, who is a director that cares only about character. Every single aspect and detail of the character playing into that gigantic box for me is what makes this one really special.”
Meanwhile, Margot Robbie recently defended her character’s costume. Harley Quinn, Robbie told The New York Times, is not wearing shorts because “she wanted guys to look at her ass.” Her character, the actress insisted, wore shorts “because they’re sparkly and fun.”
“We tried the court jester costume, we tried the corset and skirt, we tried leather pants, we tried literally every type of costume possible for her,” the actress said. “I really love where we ended up. And who knows, maybe in the sequels we’ll go with the court jester one. I think there’s a world of possibilities.”
“Suicide Squad” is set to hit theatres on August 5.
