“Suicide Squad” hasn’t even hit the big screen yet, but it looks like it’s generating so much hype that it managed to spur rumours about a sequel coming along the way. Apparently, Warner Bros. is on a blitz as it churns out films in its DC Universe as “Justice League: Part One,” “Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and “Wonder Woman” will arrive in the theatres very soon.
According to a report from SlashFilm, Warner Bros. is now planning ahead for a sequel to the heavily anticipated film “Suicide Squad” a couple of months before the film even shows in the cinemas. David Ayer is likely to return to helm the sequel.
Directed by Ayer, the first “Suicide Squad” film is set to open in theatres on August 5, 2016. The film stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as the Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Crock, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
Ayer is already on his way to make his non-DC project together with Will Smith in “Bright,” a thriller film that is penned by “Victor Frankenstein” and “American Ultra” writer Max Landis.
A film of this magnitude would easily score big in box office revenues, especially now that movies based on comic books are what’s hot at the moment.
It’s important to note that Warner Bros. has not yet officially announced a sequel to “Suicide Squad.” It’s even unclear as to when the film will be released. Should the sequel start production next year, it’s likely to hit the cinemas a year or two after. Warner Bros. has its roadmap complete for incoming years, so it’s interesting to see if the company will move its calendar to accommodate the rumoured sequel.
