Everyone got excited when it was announced that parts of “Star Wars Episode 8: Rogue One” will be shot in Croatia. But will Episode 9 of the franchise be shot somewhere more exciting and unheard of?

In a Sundance Festival panel called “Power of Story: The Art of Film,” director Colin Trevorrow hinted that Episode 9 might actually be shot somewhere farther and more exciting than fans could ever imagined.

According to Moviepilot.com, the director said he has asked if they could shoot the film in outer space!

“I asked the question, ‘Is it possible for us to shoot IMAX film plates in actual space for ‘Star Wars’? I haven’t gotten an answer yet, but they’ve shot IMAX in space!” he said.

According to the same report, Trevorrow’s co-panelist, film director Christopher Nolan quipped that he’s had the same conversation with movie execs about Interstellar.

“There’s incredible footage from space now,” Nolan added.

A film franchise called “Star Wars” shot in outer space makes total sense. However, space travel, although becoming totally possible, is still pretty expensive.

However, as Moviepilot.com pointed out, Trevorrow might be in “a good position to make a few demands” since he did direct the number four highest grossing movies of all time.

So, will “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” actually happen in a galaxy far, far away…or at least somewhere outside Earth? We’re not sure yet.

What is sure, though, is that Episode 9 will be shot on film, not digital, because the director considers it to be not just an ordinary film.

“The only place where I tend to not be able to attach myself entirely to something shot digitally is when it’s a period film… I could never shoot Star Wars [digitally] because it’s a period film. It happened a long time ago!” he said.

Meanwhile, according to Variety, Episode 7 “The Force Awakens” is close to breaking the $2 billion mark in worldwide box office this week.

Episode 8 is currently in production and is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15, 2017.  Earlier reports suggest that Episode 8 would be “much darker” and more realistic. Rumors suggest that the film might show Rey joining the dark side.

Episode 9 meanwhile is set for a 2019 release.
