Just days ago, Sony Xperia loyalists heard about the registered beta users receiving the company’s concept build of Marshmallow for the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact. But the question that lingered was when would the recent Sony Xperia Z5 lineup get the taste of Marshmallow?
It was known that Sony Xperia handsets would be amongst the first non-Nexus devices to be receiving the latest OS, as reported by Gospel Herald. Now, it appears that the Sony Xperia Z5 lineup will be getting the update sometime next month. This news comes straight from leaker Ricciolo (@Ricciolo1), who has been known to provide credible information in the past.
As was speculated that the update wouldn’t be arriving in time for holidays, it seems about right that the treat would roll out in January 2016 for the Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact and Premium users. Keeping up with tradition, the update will start to be released for the latest handsets and then moving to previous devices from the company.
Also, the Xperia Z3+ owners shouldn’t be disappointed, since this only indicates that the OS will also be rolled out quite soon for their smartphones.
However, with the OTA update being at the mercy of a user’s carrier, the dates may vary, as is always the case. So, the release dates with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon may differ. Xperia fans should keep a lookout for that, once the official announcement has been made by the company. As is the norm, users with unlocked devices won’t have to endure the wait and can keep checking back for the official release of Android Marshmallow.
Other devices which has been listed out by the company, expected to receive the OS are Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia C4, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and Xperia Z2 Tablet.
