It’s a casting crossover of sorts with Smallville’s Laura Vandervoot set joins the cast of CBS’ “Supergirl“. The news was announced by Warner Bros. during its Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. LA Times mentions that Vandervoort is slated to play Indigo, which will be a recurring role on the CBS series.
Indigo is a strong-willed, living supercomputer, who was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton. This super powered cybernetic banded with Brainiac to wreck havoc. Indigo is expected to debut in episode 15.
In addition to Vandervoot, “Supergirl” has managed to cast Jeff Branson as the Master Jailer of Fort Rozz. Jeff Branson was earlier seen in “The Young and The Restless”. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this too will be a recurring character, which will debut in episode 14 of the show. Master Jailer is a forceful and unrelenting guard on Fort Rozz. Now on Earth, he’s determined to capture all the Fort Rozz runaways and brutally bring them to justice.
According to comicbookresources.com, both these characters have roots in DC Comics history. Indigo was created by Judd Winick and Alé Garza, and first appeared in 2003. While Master Jailer was created by Martin Pasko and Curt Swan.
In addition to these two, “Supergirl” has roped in Melissa Benoist, who plays the lead role of Supergirl—Kara Danvers in the series. Helen Slater, who played Supergirl in the 1984 movie, has also joined the cast as Kara’s foster mother.
Rest of the cast includes Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane (sister of Lois), David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord and Dean Cain as the foster father.
