The Sleepy Hollow TV show is now out of limbo as Fox confirmed on Friday that the show is being renewed for a fourth season production.

Lead actor Tom Mison, who plays the witting and charming Ichabod Crane, will return to the show together with season regulars Lyndie Greenwood, Lance Gross, and Jessica Camacho.

Unfortunately, Nicole Beharie, the show’s female lead, will no longer join the cast of Sleepy Hollow Season 4 since her character, Abbie Mills, was killed off in the Season 3 finale. Nikki Reed, who became a mainstay as Betsy Ross, also checked out of the Sleepy Hollow in Season 3.

Abbie’s death in the series continues to draw major backlash from the Sleepy Hollow fan community. After all, she was with Ichabod since day one and was an essential figure in his journey.

“The finale featuring the tragic death of Abbie Mills was a very dramatic ending and a bold move for the show, Sleepy Hollow has always been known for its shocking finales,” Fox explains in a statement, E! News reports. “We feel we provided a wonderfully poignant conclusion for Abbie and showed some of the best moments between the Witnesses that we’ve seen on-screen.”

There are also rumours that actress Nicole Beharie wanted to get out of contract. Fox initially wanted to keep her in the Sleepy Hollow series until it reportedly became clear that she didn’t want to be a part of it anymore, thus, the show decided to let her go.

Beharie is one-half of the original and main Sleepy Hollow cast members next to Tom Mison.

Nevertheless, the Sleepy Hollow Season 4 renewal delivers exciting news for fans. The series will run with 13 episodes and will launch midseason. Fox TV Group Chairman Dana Walden teases the fourth season may or may not be Ichabod’s last adventure, Deadline writes.

Fox promises “exciting scenarios and new avenues” in Sleepy Hollow Season 4. The storyline supposedly follows “supernatural creatures, inexplicable events and the search for the truth about the lives of Witnesses.”
