The long wait for Sherlock Season 4 will finally end when the show premieres in early 2017 with a new villain and the darkest season ever.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has teased that Sherlock Season 4 will be darker than previous seasons because of the new villain coming in. In addition, an old enemy will also return this season. The actor will reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes in season 4.

Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat agreed. It’s the same show. Hopefully, there are lots of laughs and lots of great personal stuff, but it is explicitly a darker season. You’ll have to wait and see,” he hinted. Moffat added that Sherlock and Watson will also face a new and darker villain than any that the show ever had.

The famous British detective will be coming back in London to reunite with his partner in solving crimes – Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman). The duo will try to stop Sherlock’s arch nemesis Jim Moriarty.

Actor Toby Jones will be playing Sherlock’s new enemy Culverton Smith. The character has been in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s series as the villain who will try to infect Sherlock with a rare disease. Sherlock believes that Smith murdered his nephew, and will also do anything in his power to prove that Smith is a criminal.

Moffat has warned that Jones’ character will be the purest evil of all, and Sherlock is horrified by him.

Despite the darkness looming in the forthcoming season, a new bundle of joy is coming for John and Mary Watson. Watson wife, which is being played by Amanda Abbington, is about to give birth this season. How Sherlock will react on the arrival of Watson’s baby is another exciting plot viewers of the BBC show have been waiting for.

Meanwhile, before Sherlock Season 4 premieres in the small screen, Cumberbatch will be seen in Marvel’s Dr. Strange. The movie is set to hit cinemas on November 4, 2016.

Sherlock Season 4 will premiere in the UK in early 2017.
