Right after its release, fans of Shawn Mendes’ new song “Treat You Better” have pointed out subtle hints on what seem to be lyrics directed at Mendes’ flame, Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello.
Mendes, who released the pop ditty on iTunes over the weekend, encouraged his fans to download the song.
“New single “Treat You Better” on iTunes now guys go get it & share with #BetterOniTunes!” he wrote on Twitter with a link to the download page.

“Cause I know I can treat you better / Than he can / And any girl like you deserves a gentleman,” the Canadian teen pop star croons over the track.
The song hit the top spot of the iTunes sales charts a few hours after its release to various streaming and download platforms, Seventeen reported.
Fans have speculated that the new song is about Cabello, but Cabello and Mendes have repeatedly denied being involved with each other, saying that they are only “great friends” in a Seventeen interview.
“Treat You Better” is the first song Mendes released since dropping the song he did with Cabello called “I Know What You Did Last Summer” in November.
According to Digital Spy, he and Cabello did not even plan to release the song as they only did the song for “fun.”
“We were bored and we were just waiting for Taylor to get on stage and we started messing around with a guitar and then the song happened,” he said. “I wasn’t thinking, ‘I’ve got to choose Camila over everyone else’. It was just for fun.”
Mendes, meanwhile, expressed his desire to work with other members of the successful American girl group.
“Yeah, I love the girls. I’ve known them for a very long time, since I’ve started music, so I love them all. I would love to,” he said.
