Kevin James Loibl shot and killed former “The Voice” contestant and Youtube star Christina Grimmie on June 10 during an Orlando meet-and-greet. Although Selena Gomez loves interacting with her fans, this is the scenario that she is trying to avoid.
“Selena is obviously broken up over the entire tragedy, and she feels that for her safety, and her fans safety, that it might be best to cancel all future meet and greets,” the source told Hollywood Life. “She’s weighing the pros and cons of it all, but she really is highly considering canceling or drastically changing how things are run to make sure everyone is safe and sound.”
Christina Grimmie was outside the Plaza Live theatre in Orlando after her amazing show with Before You Exit. When Kevin James Loibl approached her, a Christina Grimmie fan recalled that the 22-year-old singer even greeted the deranged fan with arms wide open for a hug.
“My back was to Christina but I kept turning to check on how long we had to meet her,” Destiny Rivera, told Daily Mail. “The one guy in front of us was walking up to meet her. Her arms were open, waiting to greet him with a hug. Then there was a sound of three pops, like balloons. People had brought balloons to the show and the security guards were popping them so at first I thought it was that.”
Kevin James Loibl shot Christina Grimmie and then turned the gun on himself. Grimmie’s brother, Mark, heroically tackled Kevin James Loibl to the ground before he could shoot anyone else.
Orlando police have found no known connection between Kevin James Loibl and Christina Grimmie and believe that he was obsessed with “The Voice” season six finalist. He brought several weapons into the venue and had plans to flee back to his hometown of St. Lucie, Florida, after killing the singer.
Christina Grimmie is not a stranger to Selena Gomez at all. She used to be an opening act for the “Same Old Love” singer’s tours and they didn’t end their friendship onstage as well as offstage.
