For those who are waiting with bated breath to hear conception news about Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) in the sixth season of “Scandal,” here is the latest update!

Squashing the rumors, ABC now cleared all speculation and crushed the hopes of viewers who were expecting an Olivia and Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) baby. Season 6 has been put on hold for the time being.

Washington’s declaration about her second pregnancy led to a lot of discussion on how the show would go forward with the upcoming installment. There were many who assumed that the storyline would include her pregnancy. In other words, it means Olivia would have been expectant with Jake’s child. Fans also couldn’t discount the fact that during the season finale, the duo was inseparable. Olivia was even seen turning the tables and making her sweetheart a vice presidential candidate in Mellie’s (Bellamy Young) ticket just to save him from her father’s Machiavellian ways. Jake requested Olivia to protect him from Eli (Joe Morton), and she did not let him down.

With so many things happening, it was no surprise that the fans are expecting a baby from these passionate lovers. Nonetheless, a Ballard baby will not be happening. As per Channing Dungey, the network’s entertainment president, they are planning to move the show to midseason to support Washington’s condition. This hints at the non-return of “Scandal” in the fall.  According to Hollywood Life , while “Grey’s Anatomy” will continue at its regular time at 8 p.m. during the network’s Thursday schedule, there will be a new show called “Notorious” that will replace “Scandal” at its spot at 9 p.m. The 10 p.m. slot will be occupied with the usual “How to Get Away With Murder.”

Moreover, even the standard 22 episodes of “Scandal” will also be cut down to 16. Premiere Date reports that “Scandal” season 6 will premiere in 2017. It has been declared by ABC officially.

If one remembers, this happened earlier too, when Washington was expecting her first pregnancy during season 3. During that time, Shonda Rhimes, the series creator, decided not to incorporate Washington in the story. Her entire pregnancy period was pulled off brilliantly in the show by the team. They creatively hid her baby bump at times with the signature big bags that she sported and at others by making Olivia stand behind strategically placed set décor.
