Samsung’s new mobile phones, Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge, have witnessed more leaks than any other. Now, they have been officially unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Spain. Samsung has brought in key popular features in the earlier models with these two. These include expandable memory and water resistance.
Whats new with these phones? Plenty. For starters Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge have 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch curved screen displays. They have better cameras too. News.com.au informs that new cameras come with an f1.7 lenses to capture more light. While the resolution has gone down from 16 to 12 megapixels, the hybrid autofocus feature promises to nail the images instantly.

They can also snap up the Samsung Gear 360, a golf ball-shaped video recording device which comes with two 15 megapixel cameras. This enables the gear to shoot 180-degree views of a scene.
According to News.com.au, users can view Gear shot footage on Facebook or YouTube or inside Samsung’s Gear VR headset where users can turn their heads left or right to get a more real view. Gear 360 connects with the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phone, allowing them to “stitch” the captured videos together in a bid to cover entire surroundings and give a more realistic effect.
In terms of storage, the phones come with a standard 32GB and 64GB storage options, notes Pocket Lint. The company has reintroduced the expandable memory features, which were seen lacking in the S6 phones. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones come with an expandable memory slot, which is built into the SIM card tray. This allows to expand the phone’s memory to up to 2 TB using a microSD card.
Another feature that is revisited with these phones is that of dust and water resistance. According to Fox40, the phones are both are dust and water-resistant. Other features include the new battery conservation mode. Another feature that that is sure to appeal to gamers is the ‘Do Not Disturb’ feature that prevents phone calls from interrupting playtime.
Despite the bunch of new and revisited features, the ‘removable battery pack’ has not found its way back. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge come with 3,000 mAh and 3,600 mAh batteries respectively. Both batteries have fast charging with wired and wireless options.
While talking about reintroducing the old features, Prasad Gokhale, mobile vice president of Samsung Australia told News.com.au that “We absolutely were not happy with letting go of those two features. At that time, with technology limitations, we had to forego the IP67 (water resistance) and the memory card insert. Over the last year we have figured out a way, a very innovative way, to bring in IP68 and also bring in the extra memory card slot.”
