Mixed martial arts champion Ronda Rousey takes another shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. after beating the boxer for “Best Fighter of the Year” award at the 2015 ESPYs on Wednesday.
In an interview after winning the award, Rousey commented on Mayweather finally experiencing defeat and it came from a woman.
“I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once,” the UFC champion said.
The Bleacher Report said this is not the first time the undefeated UFC women’s bantamweight champion alluded on Mayweather’s past domestic violence incidents.
In an interview with Access Hollywood in May, Rousey was asked about a hypothetical fight with Mayweather.
“Well, I would never say that I can’t beat anyone, but I don’t think me and him would ever fight,” the fighter replied.
“Unless we ended up dating,” she added with a laugh.
As for her win, The Inquistr notes that this year’s award is particularly sweeter for Rousey.
The MMA fighter stated last year that she could beat Mayweather in an MMA fight. When Floyd was made aware of Rousey’s remark, the boxer quipped, “Actually, I don’t even know who he is.”
In an answer to Mayweather’s statement, the UFC fighter teased after receiving 2015 ESPY “Best Fighter of the Year” award: “I’d like to see you pretend to not know who I am now.”
While a Rousey vs Mayweather fight won’t probably happen, MMA Junkie reports that UFC President Dana White was presented with the hypothetical matchup last year.
White said, “You take a street fight, Ronda wins that fight and hurts him badly. You do an MMA fight, same result. Boxing match, Floyd Mayweather chews her up.”
Both fighters have exceptional performance in their careers. Rousey has an 11-0 record, while Mayweather also remains undefeated with 48-0 record.
The boxer recently won via unanimous decision against Manny Pacquiao in a fight where he reportedly earned $180 million. Mayweather is yet to announce his next match and his potential opponent, while Rousey is expected to face Bethe Correia in UFC 190 on August 1.
