Ronaldo is coming back to Real Madrid. Not Cristiano Ronaldo, but another club legend of the same name, Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima from Brazil. He is reportedly returning to the club on a more administrative role.
According to a report by The Sun, Ronaldo is returning to the Santiago Bernabeu to assume a new role as the club’s global ambassador. He will also be reporting directly to club president Florentino Perez, as a valuable advisor. He will begin his tenure in September and will be just one of many Real Madrid Players who return to the club after the end of their playing careers.
Bearing the number 9 for Real Madrid from 2002-2007, the Brazilian was an integral part of the Galacticos era. It was a time when Real Madrid had a roster composed of legendary names including David Beckham, World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro and current team manager Zinedine Zidane. As a club adviser, Ronaldo will be working closely with Perez and very familiar former teammates like Zidane. It remains unclear if he will have any influence on what takes place on the pitch
Santiago Solari, who played alongside Ronaldo, Zidane, Luis Figo and the other members of the Galacticos, is also currently part of the team’s coaching staff. Meanwhile, former captain Raul Gonzalez Blanco, is currently acting as an ambassador for the Spanish La Liga in the United States.
While younger football fans will immediately think of Cristiano Ronaldo when the name is mentioned alongside Real Madrid, many older fans know that the Brazilian is not exactly a lesser star. He won the FIFA World player of the year in 1996, 1997 and in 2002, his first year in the Spanish capital. It remains to be seen if the arrival of one of the club’s legends, will result in even more solid results on the pitch.
