When Quantico season 2 premiered, viewers saw repeat elements from the first season. The dual timelines, Alex’s relationships, and the terrorist attack in the present narrative were all there. However, one new element stood out from the rest, and that’s Alex being at the bottom of her class.
It seems Alex’s skills that made her top student at Quantico won’t do her any good in CIA’s The Farm. With her smarts and personality, Alex always came out last season as savior of the day or even the hero. However, at The Farm, that characteristic got her into trouble instead.
She ended at the bottom of the so-called “Murder Board” for saving a fellow recruit. Turns out, the recruit
was already an agent and the problem with her chute was simply a test. The lesson of the story was for recruits to put the mission first, teammates later.
Alex almost failed. However, while she got through that stage, it appears her troubles won’t be over soon.
Quantico season 2 gives Alex more trouble
In an article by Entertainment Weekly, Quantico EP Josh Safran revealed that episode 1 was only the beginning of Alex’s troubles. The source quotes him as saying:
“…at Quantico, she [Alex] always won. […] What we’re going to see this year is an Alex who is having to struggle more than she has before, and the question for her is, ‘Am I right to feel like this isn’t the way things have to be done, or do I actually have to loosen myself up to go into more of the gray area that I witnessed other people going into last year, and that I’m witnessing now in Ryan?'”
Considering that Ryan was at the opposite end–ranking first–over-achiever Alex would certainly have conflicting feels over her stay at The Farm. The future episodes will reveal how she’ll deal with that.
As for its next episode, ABC shares the following synopsis:
“The new CIA recruits begin running counter-surveillance exercises at The Farm while Alex and Ryan navigate their new relationship with each other. In the future, Ryan and Raina try to disrupt the terrorists’ plan to blend in with hostages while trust becomes a deadly weapon, as not everyone is who they seem to be…”
