Dominic Purcell opened up about the horrific accident on the set of “Prison Break” season 5 that left him with a bloodied face and broken nose.

The actor could certainly count his lucky stars as he admitted to having “dodged a bullet” with the recent mishap, Entertainment Tonight reported. Purcell also realized that the outcome of the situation could have easily been worse.

“I have more layers of skin than the average person around my skull and because of my build, I didn’t snap my neck. I was lucky on all fronts,” Purcell told ET.

“When it happened, it was like, ‘Wow.’ One minute you can be here and the next you may not and that was a shock more than anything else,” he said. “It was one of those things where I dodged a bullet,” Purcell added.

News of the actor’s accident led to a report about the cancellation of “Prison Break” season 5. Given the gravity of the accident, many likely thought that Dominic Purcell wouldn’t be able to resume his role as Lincoln Burrows. However, Purcell was soon back on the set and ready to start filming. Purcell recounted the details of the harrowing event when the iron bar fell while during an action sequence. At the time, the actor felt the blow but was not aware of what hit him until his stunt double told him.

“He looked as white as a ghost and he said, ‘Here’s the thing, your head’s cut open and I can see your skull and your nose is smashed on the other side of [your] face,’” he was told.

“I just sat there really calmly. Really, it was weird. I wasn’t panicked; obviously I was in shock,” he said. “And then I kind of thought, ‘Maybe I’m going to die in Morocco.’ Then, after about four or five minutes, I said, ‘Take me to the hospital,’” Purcell revealed.

The actor also thanked the presence of his girlfriend, actress AnnaLynne McCord, who stood by him during his recovery period. Purcell and McCord rekindled their relationship just last March, Mail Online reported. They were a couple for three years prior to their split in 2014.

“She basically took charge of the whole situation. She went into raging mama mode and poured whiskey on my head because that’s all we had at the time and wrapped my head in gauze. Yeah, it was pretty gnarly,” he recalled.
Dominic Purcell didn’t lose his sense of humor through it all and even posted a video to assure “Prison Break” season 5 fans he’s definitely alright.
