Fans of “Pretty Little Liars” had a rough time last month. Producers have finally confirmed that Season 7 will be the show’s last. However, will fans still see Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily together after the finale? Will the hit show get a spin-off series or even a movie?
In an interview with Hollywood Life, executive producer Marlene King denied rumors that they will still make the eighth season for the show.
“It’s definitely the end of [Pretty Little Liars] as we know it. In this form. On TV. At this time,” King said. “I feel like it’s time for us to end this story we started seven years ago.” However, this might not be the end of the road for the Liars just yet.
“There is talk about a movie,” the producer confirmed. “I love the idea of keeping some characters, who are alive, and maybe doing a spin-off or possibly a movie… But there’s not a set date or anything like that. We hope it works out.”
What could the spin-off be about? Lucy Hale thinks that the spin-off could focus on her character Aria. “I think there’s so many areas of Aria that haven’t been explored,” she told E! News. “She went away to Iceland before the show even started, so why was she there?”
The spin-off hasn’t been confirmed. Meanwhile, Hale is willing to return if they decide to push through with the project.
“I love Aria,” she explained. “She has become a huge part of me. So I keep an open mind.”
It was earlier reported that Hale was the first to drop hints about the show’s end. “It is ending,” Hale previously said. “We’ve been doing it for six years… and I think that all good things must come to an end.”
The actress also shared how she wants the Liars to say goodbye. “I used to say I wanted the show to end with them walking away in the sunset. They’re all happy living an A-free life,” Hale said. “But I don’t. I want it to end really tragically.”
“Pretty Little Liars” airs every Tuesdays on Freeform.
