Jose Mourinho received the wrath of the Chelsea administration yet again when he was sacked, following the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Leicester City. The Portuguese has been controversially shown the door just seven months after he led Chelsea to a Premier League title.
He won three league titles — FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cups — that make him the most successful manager in Chelsea’s 110-year history. However, it seems the club is ready to turn over a new leaf.
“Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today parted company by mutual consent. But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways. There will be no further comment until a new appointment is made” said an official statement by Chelsea Football Club.
Although an appointment hasn’t been made, speculations over who should be the next manager have been doing the rounds. Pep Guardiola, Guus Hiddink, Juande Ramos, Diego Simeone and Brendan Rodgers have all been linked to a move in London.
After winning everything at Barcelona and handling a talented bunch at Bayern Munich, a challenge at Chelsea is something Guardiola would like. Although he has earlier suggested his interest in Manchester United, he wouldn’t shy away from this opportunity. Also, he informed German newspaper, Bild, that he will leave Bayern at the end of the season.
Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone is also a strong contender for the job. The two time La Liga coach of the year has said that he has nothing to prove and the time might be right for him to make a move.
Guss Hiddink is yet another contender, after he received the sack for his dismal performance for the Netherlands at the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. Although, if rumor is to be believed, he will only take the place on an interim manager.
Juande Ramos who managed Tottenham Hotspur is also shock target to replace Mourinho, as the Independant reports. However, a rival manager getting the job wouldn’t go that well with the Chelsea faithful after what happened to Rafael Benitez.
Finally, Brendan Rodgers who was sacked by Liverpool is also in the running, according to a Metro UK on Tuesday.
While the top four position is a far off dream for Chelsea, looks like an interim manager in most likely the option they have. So Guus Hiddink it is?
