Nintendo’s latest Pokemon game might be its biggest release thus far. The augmented reality game has been the talk of the town since its launch last week. Has the game’s success really led film executives to take notice? Should fans expect a Pokemon Go movie to be in the works soon?
Fans might just have to brace themselves for Pokemon to return to the big screen in the near future. Or at least, they should if Deadline.com‘s “exclusive” report proves accurate. According to the entertainment news site, film studios have renewed interest in chasing after a Pokemon live action movie deal.
Legendary Pictures, in particular, is reportedly moving closer toward that deal. However, the film studio itself has not confirmed this report. Deadline.com also admits no such deal has been closed.
This is not the first time talks of a possible Pokemon movie reboot came out in recent years. Legendary Pictures is also not the only film studio that expressed interest in the movie. Both Sony and Warner Bros. were also, at one point, reportedly competing for the rights. However, this might be the first time reports suggest a multi-million dollar deal for the movie reboot. According to Deadline.com, if things push through, the franchise might even go on to get the “biggest video game movie rights deal” of all time.
Meanwhile, renewed interest in the movie reboot is not the only thing that came out of last week’s game release. The developer behind the successful game also had a lot to gain in the markets. Nintendo’s stock price jumped after Pokemon Go‘s release in selected countries last week. The game app might have just launched last week but it has already reportedly surpassed Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Tinder in terms of daily usage and Android downloads.
Which Hollywood studio will eventually make the Pokemon Go movie? No word as of yet to confirm this. Stay tuned for updates.
