New report has shown up that provided more juicy information for the rumoured PlayStation 4.5, and it will have a new name according to some reports.

According to GiantBomb, the rumoured new PlayStation 4 console will be called “NEO,” and reports say that not just the GPU will be upgraded, but the CPU and RAM are set to produce higher memory bandwidth. It has also been reported that it can support 4K resolution image output.

Below is the comparison of the specs of the original PlayStation 4 and the rumoured specs of the PlayStation NEO console:

Original PS4

  • CPU – 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz
  • GPU – AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz
  • Memory – 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s

  • CPU – 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz
  • GPU – Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz
  • Memory – 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s

Also according to some reports, the release of new PlayStation 4 games starting October will be shipped with two different versions; the Base mode which is for the older PS4 consoles and the NEO mode which is for the new NEO PS4 consoles.

Older releases prior to October will get an advantage with the NEO console through patch updates. The PS4 games that have NEO mode versions are promised to have better visual fidelity and more stable frame rate when played in the NEO PlayStation 4. But the good news is that there will be no NEO-exclusive PS4 games that will prevent other non-NEO-users from playing other PS4 games.

The only difference between the two consoles is that the NEO version will have improved visuals.

The supposed NEO PlayStation 4 should be available before October, just before the planned release for the PlayStation VR.
