Mobster James “Whitey” Bulger acknowledges Johnny Depp’s portrayal of his life, saying that the actor looked exactly like him.
Bulger may have dismissed the “Black Mass” film as “pure fiction,” but he is certainly impressed with Depp’s accurate resemblance of his look.
As reported in Page Six, a close friend of Bulger was able to get a hand on the convicted gangster’s photos with notes on the back. In one of the photos, the organised crime boss wrote the following:
“Johnny Depp all made up in movie about me. Once I looked just like he does now in the movie. This movie started out way back in ’94 or ’93. I was paying two FBI agents for information about a case involving me.”
He believes that the movie was created to show him in a bad light as he added: “Johnnie [sic] Depp on set with his girlfriend playing me on an anti-Whitey movie put together by 2 reporters from the Boston Globe.”
“Many years ago, shot up the building with a 12 ga pump shot gun . . . This movie is pure fiction!”
These notes he wrote and signed with prisoner number 1428A.
The real-life mobster has been on the run for over 16 years and is now serving life imprisonment in a Florida prison.
Depp is definitely no mobster but his resemblance to Bulger was uncanny. He tried to reach the crime boss in prison but he was declined, as advised by the kingpin’s lawyer.
“I made a request to meet with Mr. Bulger, and since he was not particularly a great fan of the book . . . and many of the other books written about him, I got a beautiful response through his attorney that said, ‘Mr. Bulger respectfully declines,'” he shared.
John ‘Red’ Shea, former mobster associated with Bulger and his Winter Hill Gang, said he was on the verge of punching Depp when he visited the set of “Black Mass.” According to the Daily Mail, this is because Depp looked convincingly like Bulger and Shea felt emotions swelling uncontrollably and had no option but to leave the trailer.
