Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach has an appeal to the next president of the Philippines – do not forget the members of the LGBT community.
Millions of Filipinos are set to select a new president on Monday (May 9) who will also be the new Commander-in-Chief of the country. The winner in the poll is expected to be known in the coming days.
On her Instagram account, Wurtzbach wrote, “Wag n’yo pong kalimutan ang LGBT community (Don’t forget the LGBT community).” The beauty queen also clarified that she is not endorsing any candidate for the presidential elections as the Miss Universe have to remain neutral, Manila Bulletin noted.
“Just to be clear. I am not pushing any candidate for the upcoming elections. I’m updated on it but it’s all up to you, kababayan,” she added.
Pia Wurtzbach earlier denied that she owns a social media account that asked followers to choose between Santiago and Duterte, Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
Santiago is Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, while Duterte is Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Both are seeking the top seat in the Philippine government this May national elections. Duterte is currently the frontrunner in the country’s election surveys.
The Filipino beauty queen posted on her official IG account a screenshot of a post from a fake account and captioned it: “Please stop. This is not real. This is not me. Thank you. I have a fan page and a fan group that is being handled by Daryl and of course the Official Miss Universe Facebook page. Please help me spread the word out. Maraming salamat po (Thank you very much).”
Meanwhile, the reigning Miss Universe also asked the public to be wise voters and think carefully about the names they will be writing on their ballots. “Please choose wisely … Every tick on those name count. And it should be your decision. Yours.” Pia Wurtzbach added that she is praying for a clean, fair and peaceful election.
She also hopes that the next President will not disappoint the people who elected the person to take the top position in the country.
