Oscars 2016: Sam Smith Performance Out-of-Pitch? Chris Rock Jokes About Singer

Oscars 2016

While a number of Oscar 2016 moments have been creating headlines for all the right reasons, there are those “less-than-stellar” ones that are grabbing the limelight too.

Sam Smith’s performance of “Writing’s On the Wall” at Oscar 2016 has everyone talking and not for the right reasons. Described as “less-than-stellar, out-of-pitch” by CoS, Smith’s performance sure didn’t win many hearts. And after Smith’s performance, host Chris Rock humorously compared Smith to George Michael. He jokingly said, “Yeah! Amazing. Hey, hey, my favorite song is ‘Father Figure,’” as noted by US Weekly.

Sam Smith along with composer Jimmy Napes bagged the Academy Award for the “Spectre” theme song “Writing’s on the Wall.” Smith had also won the Best Original Song at the Golden Globe Awards. But the 23-year old singer has been in the limelight for more reasons than just his singing prowess.

Back in March, the singer took to his Instagram account and expressed gratitude to the woman behind his amazing transformation. The star confessed to have shed 14 pounds in just two weeks. He wrote, “I met a woman who has completely changed my life. Amelia Freer has helped me lose over a stone in 2 weeks and has completely transformed my relationship with food. Everyone go check out her incredible book, and start to live healthy. It’s not even about weight loss it’s about feeling happy in yourself. Love you Amelia & thank you for making me feel so happy inside and out @ameliafreer #eatnourishglow.”

While the singer looked dapper at the Oscar 2016 function, twitterverse has been abuzz with details over how Smith failed to make his presence felt on the Oscar 2016 stage.
