There is a possibility that everyone’s favourite, Leonardo DiCaprio, may not actually win the Oscar this year. Ridiculous as it sounds, it just might be true. While most of us are still lauding DiCaprio’s “The Revenant” performance, a group of people believe that “it’s not that great really.”
According to Daily Mail, an Academy member has rubbished DiCaprio’s performance in “The Revenant.” The so called member has even stated that the actor does not deserve the Oscar. The Academy member has also said that “The Revenant” is nothing but a “beautifully shot Road Runner movie.”
In fact this anonymous member/voter even criticised “The Revenant’s” film campaign. Much was said about the difficulties in making the movie but the particular member said, “’That’s what he gets paid for.”
This person is not the only one. Many others too believe that DiCaprio’s performance in “The Revenant” is not Oscar-worthy. Reporter Rose Donohoe of The New Daily wrote about that. “Leonardo DiCaprio is about to ride a Hollywood-sized wave of affection and sentimentality to his first ever Academy Award for best actor for his role in the grisly revenge drama ‘The Revenant.’ Unfortunately, that would be a poor decision. Not because he’s a bad actor, but because his performance on this occasion is far from Oscar-winning,” she said.
“Since this year’s best actor category contains only moderately-strong competition, Leo may be able to slip through the cracks, but ‘The Revenant’ should not be the film we remember as the best of his distinguished career,” she wrote in her article.
New York Times film critic, A.O. Scott too echoes the same sentiment, informs Huffington Post. Scott revealed that while he doesn’t think DiCaprio’s work in “The Revenant” is bad, it does strike him as “an almost parodically Oscar-soliciting performance.” He told HuffPost Live’s Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani this and that therefore DiCaprio’s performance is perhaps not worth the Academy Award fanfare.
