Oscar 2016: ‘The Revenant’ Tops Nominations; Will Leonardo DiCaprio Win?

Will Leonardo DiCaprio win an Oscar this year? The brilliant actor has been nominated for his role in “The Revenant”. This will be DiCaprio’s fifth Oscar nomination so far, and we only hope that he gets the golden trophy this year.

“The Revenant” has been leading the pack with 12 nominations across categories. The film’s director has also been nominated for best director states ABC News. Alejandro González Iñárritu, has already won an Oscar last year for the best director and we’d like to see him win again this year.

Upon learning of the nomination, the actor, in a statement said, “I am so grateful to the Academy for their recognition of this film. Making ‘The Revenant’ was one of the most rewarding and collaborative experiences of my life.” The actor thanked and congratulated his director and crew for their contribution. “None of this would have been possible without Alejandro’s talent, vision and determination. Our dedicated crew also deserves to share in this moment. Together, they have created a truly unique cinematic experience. Congratulations to all of my fellow nominees this season. Thank you to the Academy,” he said.

According to itv, the actor and crew worked in extreme weather conditions during the filming. They shot in far flung areas of Canada and Argentina. DiCaprio went as far as sleep in an animal carcass. He ate raw Bison liver and went in and out of freezing cold icy waters.

DiCaprio has earlier been nominated four times but hasn’t been lucky enough to win an Academy Award so far.

Other nominations for the best actor category include Bryan Cranston for “Trumbo”, Matt Damon for “The Martian”, Michael Fassbender for “Steve Jobs” and Eddie Redmayne for “The Danish Girl”.

Closely following “The Revenant” are “Mad Max Fury Road” with 10 nominations and “The Martian” with 7 nominations.
