“Orange is the New Black” star Ruby Rose reveals the reason why she left Australia.
Rose told news.com.au: “I think people were sick of me and I think that I had done everything in Australia that I could do.”
“My relationship when I left was like ‘oh my god, they hate me’… I felt like I have to leave, I had to leave. I wanted to try and make it somewhere else and do something different,” she added.
Now that she has a successful career in the US, the Aussie model and DJ is unsure of how she feels about the way Australia embrace her.
“I have mixed feelings about that, because I really think that people underestimate you,” she admitted.
“Because we wait as a country, we wait for them to make it big overseas and I don’t necessarily agree with that. So yes, as soon as I got Orange (Is The New Black), and as soon as America kind of embraced me, I’ve had this huge resurgence in Australia and I love that and I love people loving me here again.”
The OITNB season 4 actress set foot in the country where she was born and raised for the first time in about eight months.
Ruby Rose came back over the weekend to receive an award from GQ Australia, who named her as “Woman of the Year.”
Rose attended the annual award ceremony at Merivale’s Ivy Ballroom in Sydney on Tuesday with her mother, Katia Langenheim, and fiancée Phoebe Dahl.
According to Huffington Post, the Aussie actress was the only woman to walk away with an award that night.
The 29-year-old actress also expressed on Instagram how grateful she was for the title.
Rose, along with Michael Clarke, Jai Courtney, David Gandy and Cody Simpson, will be the front cover of the five collector edition of GQ’s December issue.
