Liam Payne and his other bandmates are pursuing individual interests while 1D is on a break. However, rumours persist the hiatus is a precursor to their disbandment.

With the initial success of former 1D Zayn Malik, will Payne join him and go solo as well? Have their phone conversations influenced Payne to take the big leap?

Malik shared recently that he and Payne have stayed in touch. The “Pillowtalk” singer revealed this in an interview with NME.

“I’m still probably the closest to Liam,” Malik said.

“We talk on the phone. He congratulated me on my single, which was nice. I congratulated him on his Brit Award. It was a good chat. We haven’t met up in a long time so we want to meet up,” he explained to the magazine.

Malik has had lesser luck getting in touch with the rest of 1D. “I tried to have contact but nobody’s reached out. So, whatever,” he told NME.

It’s fortunate that Malik and Payne remained friends. However, if rumours are true, then the same is not true of his relationship with another 1D member.

Recent news revealed that Harry Styles slammed Malik’s continued criticism of his former band.

Early on, Malik hinted about a possible song collaboration with Payne. He mentioned this during his first major interview after he quit 1D.

“He wants to do some music and work on some stuff aside from being in the band, which we always wanted to do anyway,” Malik revealed to Fader in 2015.

Various news reports earlier hinted at Payne’s pursuit of a solo career.

One article revealed his talent for rapping. His style is reportedly similar to that of Drake. Liam Payne recently posted “You”. The song is supposedly a collaboration of the One Direction singer with Juicy J. He shared the snippet on Twitter.
