The wait is over for One Direction fans eager to learn more about “Dunkirk” and possibly catch their first glimpse of Harry Styles on the set.
Photographer Pierre Volot shared the first images from the set of “Dunkirk” on Twitter, Screenrant wrote. Based on the shots, most of the scenes appear to be on the beach. Some photos also showed director/writer Christopher Nolan talking to the actors, the publication added.
Production is already underway in France, according to Den of Geek. The publication also cited the official synopsis released by Warner Bros. about the movie.
“Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.”

Operation Dynamo, also known as the Miracle of Dunkirk, was the likely inspiration behind the story, Slash Film revealed. Between May and June of 1940, the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) along with Allied troops evacuated Dunkirk, France. Winston Churchill hailed the operation as a “miracle of deliverance” as the evacuation saved 330,000 soldiers who were locked in the harbour surrounded by German troops, the publication explained.
The film is notably different from “Inception” or “Interstellar.” However, it’s likely Nolan’s attempt to try something different, Screenrant surmised in a separate post. Nevertheless, audiences might see a similar “scale and scope” to his previous works as cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema is part of the production. Hoytema worked with Nolan on “Interstellar.” Hence, the chances of “visually stunning” World War II battles might happen, the publication added. Sources revealed Nolan’s earlier intention to use real WWII naval destroyers. Mail Online also noted the use of cardboard cut-outs.
“Dunkirk” hits theatres on July 21, 2017 with a cast that includes stars like Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, and Cillian Murphy. Slash Film revealed Harry Styles is part of the ensemble cast for the film.
Anticipation for “Dunkirk” is largely because of Harry Styles. However, it might also be Nolan’s chance to get an Oscar’s nod, Screenrant surmised. The publication noted the Academy’s inclination towards period films. A fan posted this video of the 1D star in Dunkerque. Styles reportedly arrived in France last May 14, TeenVogue reported. He also took selfies with fans who visited the set of the movie, the publication added.
