Liam Payne has finally spoken about Zayn Malik’s departure from One Direction, revealing that 1D “was never his sort of music.”
According to People, the 21-year old 1D member told BBC Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw that Zayn “always wanted to find something else.”
“One Direction was never Zayn’s sort of music so he always wanted to find something else. If your heart’s not into something you can’t just carry on doing it because of fame and stuff. You have to go and do what you want to do,” he explained during the Monday interview.
He also congratulated his former band mate for taking a leap on his career.
“It’s worked out really nicely for everybody, obviously he’s happy and congratulations to him on his new record deal and stuff,” Sugar Scape notes.
Liam also debunked news that there is bad blood between them and Zayn.
“There’s too much history for there not to be love. But it’s nice that we’ve banded together and I feel like we’re stronger than ever now actually, which is strange but it’s worked out really nicely for everybody,” Payne said on the radio show, Perez Hilton quoted.
In addition, Sugar Scape added that 1D member Louis Tomlinson also squashed the hate rumors during Darryl Morris’ “The Hits Show”.
“Stop the controversy, you’re not getting it, the song is not about that obviously,” clarifying their latest single “Drag Me Down” is not about their former bandmate.
Recent news revealed that Zayn Malik signed up for his new solo career at RCA Records. Reports suggest that he might be working R&B producer Malay, and will be handled by Iggy Azalea’s Manager, Sarah Stennett.
After 5 years, the English artist quit the pop group last March to become a “normal 22-year old” boy. Well, it seems that he really wanted to find more of his own music than being a pop star.
