The New Year has started on a great note for all those waiting for the Oculus Rift. The official company blog has announced that pre-orders for the gaming device will open on Oculus.com at 8am Pacific Time on January 6.
The company will give a low down about everything gamers need to know on how to order the Rift on Wednesday, when pre-orders go live. Every Rift will come with “Lucky’s Tale” by Playful, and CCP’s “EVE: Valkyrie” for free with every pre-order.
Here is more good news: Palmer Luckey has tweeted that customers who pre-order the Oculus Rift will also reserve a spot for Touch preorders. First in line for Rift = First in line for Touch.
According to Tech Radar, pre-orders officially open in the US on January 6 at 8am Pacific Time, which means it is midnight of January 7 in Perth and 3am for east coast Australians. In case you are based in the UK, it will be a decent 4pm.
Oculus Rift is special for gamers because it is for and built by the gaming community. What started as a campaign on Kickstarter in 2012, has now reached fruition and gamers can’t wait to get their hands on this top class VR (virtual reality) device.
There is no official word on the price of this headset yet. However, in May last year, CEO Brenden Iribe mentioned at the Code Conference, that a PC and Oculus Rift shouldn’t cost users more than $1,500 (£1,000, AU$2,000).
The Oculus Rift is expected to have aced its consumer game with the latest Rift headset. It is supposed to be very comfortable to wear and very lightweight.
The Rift has gone through various prototype versions in the years since the Kickstarter campaign, around five of which were demonstrated to the public. Two of these prototypes were made available for purchase as “development kits”, in late 2012 and mid-2014 respectively. These gave developers a chance to develop content in time for the Rift’s release.
