Nina Dobrev has finally commented on reports that she will be returning as Elena Gilbert in “The Vampire Diaries” season 7.
A week before the premiere of “TVD’s” upcoming season, Dobrev has confirmed that she will not reprise her character as Elena.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nina said: “That chapter has closed, sadly – bittersweet.”
The actress admitted though that she does plan to watch the premiere of “TVD” season 7 and she is excited about it.
“I can’t wait to see what the new season will look like. I’ll be watching. I am very excited for my friends,” she told EW.
It was previously reported that the upcoming season’s premiere episode will be a tribute to Nina’s character, Elena, who was kept alive after Kai cast a sleeping spell on her and would only wake up when Bonnie dies.
Dobrev left the CW hit series in April, allegedly because of Ian Somerhalder’s relationship with his now wife Nikki Reed. Somerhalder and Dobrev have dated for three years before they split in 2013.
“The Vampire Diaries” cast have recently expressed their desire to have Nina back in the show.
CW released a new “TVD” season seven teaser on Twitter, hinting that Caroline will attempt to kill the Heretics.
The teaser shows Caroline pretending to welcome the vampire-witch hybrids to Mystic Falls by bringing them some flowers. However, Caroline hid a bomb inside the vase in the hopes that she’ll be able to kill the Heretics and save Mystic Falls from being taken over by the vampire/witch hybrids.
Caroline’s attempt will not go as planned and it appears as if Matt will have to come to her rescue.
“The Vampire Diaries” season 7 airs on CW on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, Dobrev stars in the new horror-comedy movie, “The Final Girls,” which is due in cinemas on Oct. 9.
She will be playing Vicki who got trapped in a Friday the 13th-like movie called Camp Bloodbath. “The Final Girls” also stars Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman, Adam DeVine, Alia Shawkat, and Alexander Ludwig.
