Nike is releasing a new colorway for Kyrie Irving’s signature shoe, Kyrie 1. A nod to his Australian roots, the new sneaker drop is aptly called “Australia”.
With the official colors Teal/ Radiant Emerald/ Metallic Red Bronze/ Green Strike, the pair will drop in stores today, August 26, at Nike stores worldwide. The pair will have a price tag of $110 (AU$155).
Not all NBA fans may know, but Kyrie was actually born in Melbourne, Australia, growing up in Kew. His father played professional basketball in the country, suiting up for the Bulleen Boomers. The Cleveland Cavaliers point guard also has an Australian passport is a dual citizen of US and Australia.
“You wouldn’t know it from his accent, but Kyrie could be considered a foreign-born phenom. Back in ‘92, when Kyrie’s dad was busy playing pro ball in Australia, baby Kyrie was born,” Nike noted.
“His dual-citizenship means the land down under can officially call the 3x All-Star their most distinguished pro baller of all time.”
According to Footwear News, the Kyrie 1 “Australia” features a teal and radiant emerald upper with green accents and a teal layered outsole.
“Nike Kyrie 1 Australia’s upper also boasts a metallic red-bronze spiked section near its heel, reminiscent of the Sydney Opera House,” he site described.
The new sneaker colorway is the last release of the Kyrie 1 this August, notes Footwear News. Kyrie 1 “Rise” was reportedly released last weekend, while the next drop will happen on September 16 with the Kyrie 1 “Green Glow”.
As for Kyrie Irving, he is recovering from a knee surgery earlier this year. He is expected to suit up for the Cavaliers as they face the Chicago Bulls on opening day of the 2015-16 NBA season.
