More than just a sporting spectacle, the NFL has turned into a venue for staging political protests. After news broke out about the national anthem protest staged by Colin Kaepernick, fans have noticed clues pointing to a possible silent protest that is being staged by Tom Brady.
New England Patriots star Tom Brady is one of the most recognizable names in the NFL. Therefore, any clash between him and the league could lead to serious issues. Business Insider reports that Tom Brady has recently been spotted sporting a helmet that lacks a subtle but important sticker.
The NFL logo has apparently been missing from Brady’s helmet for several months. The absence of the sticker was noticeably absent during the team’s preseason game last Thursday. A quick review of photographs in recent months revealed that the NFL shield has been absent since the start of preseason training as far back as May.
The logo, however, was present in Brady’s helmet way back in January. The absence of the NFL logo has given rise to speculations about a silent protest about Brady’s four-game suspension in the aftermath of “Deflategate”. With the punishment now awaiting implementation, it remains to be seen if the NFL sticker’s absence is connected to it. Neither Brady nor the NFL has commented on the issue.
Meanwhile, Colin Kaepernick has been more vocal about his protest. He refused to stand up for the national anthem as a form of protest against racially induced police brutality. According to a report by RT, the Santa Clara Police Officers’ Association have threatened to boycott the 49ers games if the team does not take action against Kaepernick. “Your employee then insinuated that police officers are being placed on paid leave for murdering minorities. This statement is obviously insulting, inaccurate and completely unsupported by any facts,” read a SCPOA statement.
