According to ESPN, they have scored 183 points this season and broke their own franchise record through the first five games of the season. This clash was their first meeting since the “Deflategate” controversy erupted after the ACL Title game last January.
The official NFL site noted, “Tom Brady threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns and New England took advantage of a botched fake punt in the Patriots’ 34-27 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night.”
Brady’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowksi gave New England a 27-21 lead, noted NFL.
“The Patriots then stopped the Colts (3-3) on an odd-looking and ill-advised fake punt, as the scrambling Brady eventually found LeGarrette Blount for an 11-yard scoring pass that made it 34-21.”
As soon as the Patriots seized control in the second half, the Colts (3-3) never looked to recover. Yahoo Sports quoted Colts coach Chuck Pagano as saying, “The whole idea there was on fourth-and-3 or less, shift our alignment to where you either catch them misaligned, they try to sub some people in, catch them with 12 men on the field and if you get a certain look, you can make a play, alignment-wise we weren’t lined up correctly, and then a communication problem on the snap. I take responsibility for that.”
The rivalry between the two teams has always been very strong and fans on either side gave it their all to cheer for their respective teams.
The Patriots went through significant changes this offseason after their coach Scott O’Brian retired. Looks like the change is working fine for the Patriots.
