Australia will play New Zealand in the second game of the Chappell-Hadlee series on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Westpac Trust Stadium starting 2 PM local time.
The hosts, New Zealand, registered a thumping victory over Australia as they looked all over the place at Eden Park. Australia’s bowling looked weak and the batsmen looked amateurs in front of the Kiwi bowling attack. Trent Boult and Matt Henry ripped through the Aussie line up as the visiting team lost by 159-runs in the first match.
As per the ESPN Cricinfo reports New Zealand now lead the three-match ODI series 1-0. There is much talk in the Aussie dressing room with George Bailey not coming to terms with David Warner when it comes to debate over his dismissal in the first match. Then there’s Steve Smith with Darren Lehmann for flying back to his team from Australia.
Usman Khawaja is expected to start the proceedings with David Warner in Wellington. He will replace Shaun Marsh. The in-form Khawaja’s inclusion in the match will give some boost to the batting order. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa is likely to make his international debut. He has replaced James Faulkner who returned to Australian with a hamstring injury.
Commenting on the loss, fast bowler John Hastings commented, “We had a good chat about it – it wasn’t ideal, we got beaten pretty badly. It was [captain Steven Smith]. It was player led. The coaches sort of took a back seat. He was fairly measured … it’s definitely not panic stations by any means but we have to improve.”
