There is speculation in the media that the misfits of the galaxy in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” will be joined by three new characters. The Internet is abuzz with rumours about the movie ever since “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” was announced.
First there was news about its casting call, then about the release dates and finalized script. This was topped up by news about the newest villain of the franchise. Movie web now reports that of these three new characters in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” two are already established.
The only real new member to join this band is Mantis, to be played by Pom Klementieff. Mantis will be joined by Yondu and Nebula in the Vol 2. However, nothing has been officially confirmed by the studio.
According to Geek.com, Mantis is quite an interesting character and comes with a bunch of powers. She is not only a great martial arts expert, but also is both an empath and a telepath. Additionally, she also has the capability to control plants and vegetation.
The website also reveals that her ability to control plants has helped her accelerate Groot’s growth, when he regenerated from a twig. Additionally, it is her back story that integrates her to Celestials, Kree cults and the Guardians, and which makes her an interesting new add to the group.
IGN notes that while Mantis is a newcomer, Yondu and Nebula have already been established as characters from the first part. Yondu is a space pirate, who clashed with the Star-Lord and later made up with him in the first film. As against this, Nebula is Gamora’s sister, who had escaped the battle on Xandar.
The movie’s cast includes Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. Michael Rooker essayed the role of Yondu and Karen Gillian played Nebula in the first part. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is expected to begin shooting next month and will hit the screens in May 2017.
